Technical Advances in Structural Insulated Sheathing (SIS)

This course aims to review various hybridized sheathing solutions and show how the integration of advanced technology has improved performance, capability, and sustainability of SIS.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the characteristics of various hybridized sheathing solutions that contribute to energy efficiency and reducing air loss.
- Use SIS systems to assist project teams in meeting green building program goals and requirements.
- Relay the benefits of fusion technology versus lamination/gluing.
- Identify how fusion-based Magnesium Oxide SIS contributes to sustainability, constructibility, and versatility.
Brian Lieburn
Brian has a B.S. degree in Industrial Education from University of Wisconsin – Stout. The majority of his professional career was spent in production home building in Ohio and North Carolina. He joined The Dow Chemical Company in 2010. His work at Dow has centered on new product and application development. He is affiliated with several building code organizations & standards committees. He has authored external publications and has given numerous presentations.
Ryan Miller
Ryan Miller leads the development and delivery of nationwide marketing activities that seek to educate the design and construction communities on the benefits and value of #ArmorWall Fire-Rated Structural Insulated Sheathing and other products manufactured by DuPont Performance Building Solutions. In this role, Ryan works with customers, partners, and sales representatives to identify shared goals and implement marketing campaigns that yield shared success.
Ryan joined DuPont through its acquisition of MaxLife Industries in December of 2021. With MaxLife, Ryan led the strategic development and delivery of marketing programs and business process improvements that contributed to growth and national exposure.
Prior to MaxLife, Ryan was the Founder and Executive Director of North Carolina Building Performance Association, the state’s not-for-profit trade association representing building performance companies and professionals. From 2014 – 2021, Ryan served as the industry’s principal lobbyist and led the association’s work with member builders, developers, contractors, product suppliers and many others to grow the industry and member businesses. Through this work, Ryan was awarded the 2017 Young Green Professional of the Year award by the National Association of Home Builders.
Outside of work, Ryan spends his weekends off-road motorcycling and building things at his tiny lake cabin property on Kerr Lake near Henderson, North Carolina.
