Program Agenda

7:30 AM | Sign-In, Welcome & Breakfast

8:00 AM – 9:00 AM | Waterproofing Used as the Air Barrier on the Other Sides of the Building Enclosure, 1.0 LU/HSW
Presenter: John Posenecker, PE, Senior Principal, Senior Engineering Consultant, Building Enclosure Practice Lead, Terracon
This presentation identifies the portions of the continuous air barrier that extend beyond above-grade walls, roofing, and fenestration systems. It provides an overview of below-grade and elevated deck waterproofing systems, their installation challenges, and performance testing methods. Participants will also review critical transitions to adjacent systems and examine key detailing strategies

9:00 AM – 9:15 AM | Break

9:15 AM – 10:15 AM | Building Enclosure Pre-Construction Meeting, 1.0 LU/HSW
Presenter: Brian Stroik, FABAA, CABS, CRIS, Performance Excellence & Quality Consultant, American Contractors Insurance Group
This presentation examines the critical role pre-construction meetings play in quality assurance and why they should be specified in the project manual. Attendees will learn how these meetings align owners, designers, contractors, and manufacturers on project expectations, installation practices, and warranty requirements before work begins. The session also demonstrates how effective planning and coordination help resolve issues early, improve collaboration, and reduce construction delays and risk.

10:15 AM – 10:30 AM | Break

10:30 AM – 12:00 PM | “By Others” – The Elusive Sub-Contractor Responsible for Transitions, 1.5 LU/HSW
Presenter: Andrew Dunlap, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, Vice President | Building Technology Studio Leader, SmithGroup
An in-depth look at the environmental separators for roof, wall, and below-grade assemblies with respect to water control, air leakage control, thermal performance, and vapor control. This presentation focuses on two of the largest sources of building enclosure failures—roof-to-wall connections and wall-to-window transitions in curtain wall systems.
Participants will review critical details through a step-by-step examination of construction sequencing and system connections required to achieve airtight, watertight, and thermally protected assemblies. Real-world project photos and field conditions illustrate common installation errors and practical solutions.

12:00 PM – 12:45 PM | Lunch

12:45 PM – 1:45 PM | A Sticky Subject – Adhesion of Air and Water Resistive Barrier Materials, 1.0 LU/HSW
Presenter: Brian Stroik, FABAA, CABS, CRIS, Performance Excellence & Quality Consultant, American Contractors Insurance Group
Adhesion is critical to the long-term performance of air and water-resistive barriers as they resist wind loads, stack effect, and building pressurization. This session reviews 15 years of field research evaluating adhesion performance across a variety of materials and substrates, comparing real-world results with laboratory testing. Attendees will learn how this data supports better specifications, installation practices, and quality control in the field.

1:45 PM – 2:00 PM | Break

2:00 PM – 3:15 PM | Locating That Elusive Point of Condensation: A Review of Hygrothermal Evaluation Fundamentals, 1.25 LU/HSW
Presenter: Andrew Dunlap, AIA, NCARB, LEED AP, Vice President | Building Technology Studio Leader, SmithGroup
This presentation explores the hygrothermal modeling tools available to help designers develop high-performing building enclosures. Topics include interior and exterior climate conditions, material permeance, wall assembly configurations, and transitions between adjacent construction.
Participants will examine the impact of selecting different modeling approaches—including one-, two-, and three-dimensional analyses, as well as transient versus static modeling—to better understand moisture behavior and support informed building enclosure design decisions.

3:15 PM – 3:30 PM | Happy Hour & Panel Set-Up

3:30 PM – 4:30 PM |Panel Discussion – Building Enclosure: Wrapping Our Heads Around It, 1.0 LU/HSW
Moderator: Larry Pickering
Speakers: Brian Stroik, Andrew Dunlap, John Posenecker
