Please join us in welcoming Matt Nelson to the ABAA Board of Directors.
Matthew Nelson is a licensed mechanical engineer who has worked in the commissioning and consulting engineering fields since 1996. His experience includes work involving the building enclosure, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems in various building types including health care, institutional, commercial, and government.
One highlight of his career was the role he played in the development of ASHRAE’s commissioning (BCxP) and building energy assessment (BEAP) certification examinations with other internationally recognized commissioning and energy experts. Following the implementation of these exams he served as the chair of ASHRAE’s Certification Committee. Closer to home, he is a past-president of the ASHRAE Cleveland Chapter, and a co-chair of the Building Enclosure Council Chapter in Cleveland, using these positions to not only promote learning about the built environment, but to help others grow as leaders in this field.
Currently, Mr. Nelson is the managing principal of ECO Commissions. A company he formed specifically to provide high‐quality, third‐party independent commissioning services. Since then, they have developed their practice areas to include, design review, testing and instrumentation, energy assessments, and forensic investigation. These services have application in both new and existing facilities and focus on achieving sustainable, high‐performance buildings.
