SUMMARY:AIVC/TightVent/INIVE Ensuring Reliable Airtightness Measurements: Airtightness Tester Qualification Across Countries
DESCRIPTION:Register Here \nThe qualification of airtightness testers plays a key role in ensuring the reliability\, consistency\, and credibility of building airtightness measurements\, which are essential for energy performance assessment\, indoor environmental quality\, and compliance with building regulations. Over the past decades\, several countries and professional organizations have developed qualification and certification schemes for airtightness testers in order to improve measurement quality and increase confidence in reported results. \nIn some countries\, qualification schemes are closely linked to regulatory requirements and mandatory testing procedures. In France\, for example\, the implementation of building energy regulations has been accompanied by approved qualification schemes for testers\, certification procedures\, and national databases collecting airtightness test results to support quality control and statistical analysis. \nIn other contexts\, qualification schemes are developed and managed by professional associations. Examples include ATTMA (Air Tightness Testing & Measurement Association) in the United Kingdom and ABAA (Air Barrier Association of America) in the U.S.\, which promote technical competence\, harmonized practices\, and third-party quality assurance. These qualification frameworks are also used and referenced internationally. \nThis webinar will present and compare these different approaches to the qualification of airtightness testers. \nThis webinar is organized with the support of TightVent Europe (www.tightvent.eu) and AIVC (www.aivc.org). Both initiatives are facilitated by INIVE (www.inive.org). \nAgenda (CET- Brussels\, BE) \n\n2:00PM | Introduction on the qualification of airtightness testers across 16 countries\, Nolwenn Hurel (Cerema\, France)\n2:05PM | Qualification Process for Air Tightness Testers in the UK\, Paul Carling (BCTA\, UK)\n2:20PM | Questions and answers\n2:30PM | Qualification of airtightness testers in the USA – The ABAA experience\, Laverne Dalgleish (ABAA\, USA)\n2:45PM | Questions and answers\n2:55PM | Qualification of airtightness testers in France – Feedback after 15 years\, Valérie Leprince (Cerema\, France)\n3:10PM | Questions and answers\n3:30PM | End of webinar

SUMMARY:CSI National Conference 2026
DESCRIPTION:Laverne Dalgleish\, Executive Director of ABAA\, will be presenting at the CSI National Conference 2026\nThere is confusion across the US about what is the difference between a vapor barrier and an air barrier. At first glance it should be very simple and that is true if you are only looking at the material. However\, if you start to put it in a building\, that’s where the confusion starts. The session will cover what are all the barriers\, why do they change depending on where they are placed in a building assembly and how they are installed. It will also show that physics does not change no matter the type of building or where it is being built. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nDifferentiate among air barriers\, vapor barriers\, and water-resistive barriers\, and explain how each contributes to moisture management\, indoor environmental quality\, thermal performance\, durability\, and occupant health and safety within building enclosure systems.\nAnalyze how environmental conditions\, climate\, and building assembly location influence barrier material properties and performance\, including their role in controlling condensation\, air leakage\, and moisture migration that can affect building durability and occupant welfare.\nCritique how installation quality\, sequencing\, and continuity impact the real-world performance of barrier systems\, and identify common failures that may lead to water intrusion\, mold growth\, energy loss\, and compromised building performance.\nEvaluate the performance of barrier materials within different wall and roof assemblies to support resilient\, code-compliant\, energy-efficient building enclosures that protect occupant health\, safety\, and welfare.\n\nLearn More and Register

DESCRIPTION:ABAA in partnership with BEC Charleston Air Barrier Symposium\nEarn up to 7.0 LU/HSW \nRegister Today \nProgram Agenda \n8:00 AM – Sign In & Welcome | Breakfast \n8:30 AM – 10:00 AM | Locating that Elusive Point of Condensation: A Review of Hygrothermal Evaluation Fundamentals (1.5 LU/HSW) \nAndrew Dunlap\, AIA\, NCARB\, LEED AP\, Vice President | Building Technology Studio Leader\, SmithGroup\n \nUnderstanding heat\, air\, and moisture movement is essential to designing durable\, high-performing building enclosures. This presentation explores hygrothermal modeling tools and demonstrates how climate conditions\, material properties\, wall assemblies\, and construction details influence enclosure performance\, while comparing one-\, two-\, and three-dimensional modeling and static versus transient analysis to support informed design decisions. \n10:05 AM – 11:35 AM | Air Barrier Field Testing of Various Air Barrier Materials During the Construction Process (1.5 LU/HSW) \nLaverne Dalgleish\, Executive Director\, Air Barrier Association of America \nLearn how field testing verifies that air barrier systems meet project specifications throughout construction. Using project photos\, videos\, and demonstrations\, this session covers quantitative testing\, qualitative assessments\, and visual inspections used to evaluate air leakage\, adhesion\, material thickness\, density\, and overall installation quality. \n11:35 AM – 12:30 PM | Lunch \n12:30 PM – 2:00 PM | Pitfalls & Challenges in NFPA 285 Engineering Judgments (1.5 LU/HSW) \nKeith Nelson\, NCARB\, AIA\, CDT\, BCxP\, Commercial Application Leader\, DuPont \nWhen direct testing isn’t feasible\, engineering analyses help demonstrate the fire performance of exterior wall assemblies. This presentation explains how qualified engineering judgments extend successful NFPA 285 test results to similar assemblies while examining the process\, limitations\, and code acceptance of these analyses. \n2:05 PM – 3:35 PM | Air & Vapor Considerations in Prefab Construction (1.5 LU/HSW) \nCorey Zussman\, AIA\, NCARB\, ALA (IL\, IN\, WI)\, QA/QC Vice President\, AECOM – Hunt Construction \nExplore the critical design\, fabrication\, transportation\, and installation considerations for air and vapor barrier systems in prefabricated cold-formed metal framing (CFMF) panel construction. Through real-world case studies\, attendees will examine design coordination\, construction tolerances\, sequencing\, transportation and storage practices\, and detailing strategies that contribute to successful enclosure performance. \n3:35 PM – 4:00 PM | Snack Break \n4:00 PM – 5:00 PM | Through-Wall Flashings & Transition Membranes: Selection & Installation (1.0 LU/HSW) \nMeagan Elfert\, CDT\, MBA\, CBS\, Vice President\, York Flashings \nProperly designed and installed through-wall flashings and transition membranes are essential to maintaining the continuity and long-term performance of the building enclosure. This presentation reviews common challenges\, material characteristics\, compatibility considerations\, and installation best practices that help create durable\, resilient flashing systems while reducing maintenance and life-cycle costs. \nRegistration Fees: $150 \nSponsorships Contact:\nTamara Foncerrada\ntamara@airbarrier.org \nVenue\nFounders Hall\n1500 Old Towne Rd.\nCharleston\, SC 29407
