The 3 Air Barrier Amigo’s – Flash, Connect, Inspect
October 8, 2020 @ 9:10 AM - 10:25 AM EDT
The 1986 cult comedy film “The 3 Amigo’s” starred great actors such as Martin Short, Chevy Chase and Steve Martin. Fast forward to 2020, and we welcome you to the premier of the 3 Air Barrier Amigo’s, staring funny (at least they think so) and engaging individuals with diverse backgrounds and expertise in the building enclosure. A number of micro-lectures that deal with compatibility of building enclosure components, integration of moisture management strategies, connections to one of the largest discontinuity details and how to test and verify you got it right! A panel discussion and ask the expert session will be held to finish off the event.
Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to:
- Recognize why the roof/wall air barrier intersection is critical to building performance in regards to moisture management and air leakage control and common design and field errors
- Review requirements for detailing the roof/wall interface and the sequence of construction for most common roof/wall air barrier connections
- Define how to specify through-wall flashings to avoid chemical compatibility issues that may impact how well the air barrier performs and integration with the insulation to provide maximum energy efficiency without a breach in the airtightness/thermal layer
- Identify how to specify and use a variety of site testing procedures for performance mock-up’s and air barrier installation to confirm design intent, sequencing, material compatibility and standards of installation acceptance
- Determine Top 5 field related installation issues found during site quality control audits using site photos and case studies to allow attendees to evaluate the installation of their air barrier application
