Exterior Insulation: A More Layered Understanding
January 14, 2021 @ 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM EST
Most designers understand that wall systems using exterior insulation can provide high levels of thermal performance. Less commonly discussed are the other performance benefits of this approach – including benefits for moisture durability, which is of critical importance. This presentation will discuss various aspects of exterior insulated wall assemblies including how the addition of exterior insulation impacts water, air, vapor, and thermal control for the building enclosure.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the impact of exterior insulation on water control strategies.
- Understand the role of exterior insulation in managing vapor and condensation risk.
- Understand the impact of exterior insulation with respect to air leakage.
- Understand methods for attaching cladding through exterior insulation.
